Student Support

The Student Wellbeing Service supports taught and research postgraduates. The service offers online and in-person appointments and is available through the academic year, including the summer months.

Postgraduates can self-refer for an initial appointment.

We work collaboratively with postgraduates on mental health and wellbeing areas including:

  • exploring support options and resources with a consultation appointment

  • support with challenges which may be impacting on your life, studies or research

  • applying evidence-based strategies for maintaining or improving your mental health and wellbeing

  • managing low mood, stress and anxiety, overcoming perfectionism or procrastination

After each session

Your adviser will ask you to engage in a five-stage process:

  1. Reflect - upon the content of the session
  2. Digest – and process your learning and experiences from the session
  3. Act – upon your learning/experience
  4. Wait – we suggest taking two weeks, or more if you wish, so change can take effect
  5. Decide – whether you wish to have a follow up session

If you feel unable to follow the process and need support sooner, please get in touch with us and our team will offer you the most appropriate support for your situation.

We recognise that things can change. If you need urgent support, please see our Crisis Support and Information page.

How to make follow-up appointments

If after two weeks, or more, you decide that you would like to book another session, please email your adviser to book. Please copy in reception@studentsupport.cam.ac.uk to your email. This ensures you will have a response if your adviser is unwell or out of the office. Follow-up sessions are usually 50 minutes long.

If you would like to change your adviser, please know this is okay to request and email reception@studentsupport.cam.ac.uk to let us know.
