Register with a Doctor
It is really important for you to register with a local General Practitioner (GP)/Doctor’s surgery once you arrive in Cambridge.

Check your protection against vaccine-preventable diseases before you come to Cambridge
Before arriving at Cambridge, check your healthcare records to make sure you’ve had these vaccines:
- Meningitis (MenACWYconjugate vaccine)
- Mumps, Measles, and Rubella (MMR)
If you don’t know whether you’ve received these vaccines, you can check with your GP practice.
Vaccination Clinic – 23 October 2025
If you need to catch up on any routine vaccinations, such as MMR, Meningitis, and HPV, you can receive them free of charge at a drop-in vaccination clinic for students on Thursday 23 October from 9am to 3pm in the Student Services Centre.
Information about other vaccines
If you are in certain health risk groups, you might also need:
- Influenza (Flu): If you suffer from chronic lung, heart, kidney or liver disease or have diabetes or are otherwise immunosuppressed, please discuss having the NHS flu vaccine with your doctor
- COVID-19: vaccinations are no longer offered to everyone. If your medical records indicate that you are eligible, the NHS will contact you
- Shingles: if you are aged 65 and over, or over 50 with a weakened immune system, you may be eligible for the Shingles vaccine
- Pneumococcal vaccine: if you are aged 65 and over, or at higher risk of becoming seriously ill, you may be able to obtain the pneumococcal vaccine
If you are eligible for the Shingles vaccine or the Pneumococcal vaccine, your GP surgery will contact you.
